Wednesday, August 5th, 2009Chinese Dim Sum and Tea Drinking in Hawaii
Sunday, June 28th, 2009Hawaii being a multi-cultural and ethnicity melting pot, we are so lucky to be able to taste different cuisines from around the world. Chinese is one of the most popular amongst the Asian cuisines.
Today, being a Sunday..it’s a Chinese tradition or family event to go out and drink tea(飲茶) with your whole family. In America
, they call it eating Dim Sum, a translation from the Chinese characters 點心, which literally means a piece(a bit) of my heart. Dim Sum consists of wide ranges of tiny dishes
, ranging from pork hashes, to steam buns to the exotic chicken legs, or the Phoenix Leg as we Chinese like to call it. People would drink their favorite teas, eat their Dim Sums while interacting with their families. It’s a place and time to catch up with family affairs after a busy week. The Dim Sum restaurants also serve as social gathering places, you would almost certainly bump into your neighbors, friends or relatives.
